Abbey Road on the River, the world's largest Beatles-inspired music festival, is coming to Louisville May 27-31, 2010! The festival honors the music and legend of The Beatles. Its crowd of 30,000 strong makes it the largest US Beatles festival, hands down.
Although it began in Ohio, since its move to Kentuckiana, Abbey Road on the River has expanded to average over 60 bands each year! These bands feature a variety of purposes, some emulating The Beatles, some simply emulating their music, and some simply celebrating Lennon, McCartney and Harrison without attempting to duplicate their work. Whatever the case may be, with so many bands and styles, everyone who still appreciates music from The Beatles will find a stage to enjoy at this festival, which features both indoor and outdoor venues and will take place rain or shine.
And if you really appreciate music, perhaps you can play and sing a little yourself as well. Abbey Road on the River isn't just about the music you hear; it's also about the music you make. Each year the festival hosts the They're Gonna Make a Big Star Outta Me music contest. Entry is free with a ticket to the festival, and the grand prize winner gets round trip air fare for two to Liverpool, four nights at Hard Days Night Hotel, tours of the famous Beatles landmarks, as well as the opportunity to perform live in Liverpool.
But you're probably more concerned about who you're going to see and hear if you attend. The list is lengthy, and includes talents from all over the world such as:
