St. Matthews in Louisville is home to a plethora of Louisville-based dining, entertainment, and shopping options. Meridian Café is one excellent dining choice. This breakfast and lunch restaurant based out of a 1940s St. Matthew's home provides yet another unique Louisville  dining experience.

Meridian Café offers the quaint feeling of home as guests enter the door. A small gift shop at the front even affords patrons a place to find eclectic souvenirs. The café caters most often to small gatherings of a few people, and their quaintly set tables with fresh flowers offer just the setting for this. The café has "a casual atmosphere [that] lends to a feeling of visiting family - whether dining upstairs, downstairs, or outside on one of five huge picnic tables."

Breakfasts at Meridian Café are served up fresh each day, and the menu suits vegans, vegetarians, and meat-lovers alike. The café serves "an eclectic mix of homemade vegan soups, specialty sandwiches, original salads, and delectable daily specials."  Vegans and vegetarians  enjoy menu items such as "Heddie's Best French Toast" and "Penny's White Bean Burger"; meat-lovers take delight in menu  items such as "James' Grilled Steak Sandwich."

The breakfast menu at Meridian Café consists of a variety of sandwiches, a list of Meridian classics, and a la carte items. The lunch menu provides even more dining options, complete with starters, soups & salads, side items, grilled pita sandwiches, Panini sandwiches, a heartier menu section that includes large sandwich options, house specialties, and a children's menu. Great options don't end with the food menu;  the drink menu also caters to a variety of guests, offering bottled water, sodas, juices, iced teas, milk, soy milk, coffee, French press coffee, chai tea, hot tea, and even hot chocolate.

Guests at Meridian Café often end their meals with a dessert or a milkshake.  Dessert offerings include a double chocolate toffee brownie or blueberry crisp, both with an a la mode option. The milkshake menu includes banana, mocha, chai, banana mocha, chocolate, avocado, blueberry, and Memphis flash.

Meridian Café serves its guests Monday through Friday from 10am-3pm and Saturdays from 8am-3pm. Special events are available for reservation upon request.

St. Matthews was named after its first church, St. Matthews Episcopal Church, which was located on Saint Matthews Ave. according to the records of Gayle Pressman.  Its residential development boomed after the devastating flood in 1937.  Most of the area sits on high ground unlike Louisville downtown area which borders the Ohio River.  The president of the Bear-grass Saint Matthews Historical Society once said, "St. Matthews is an all-American city.  This is a closely knit community, where the ideals of home, church and community still come first, as they did with the original colonial settlers."-Courier-Journal Publication

Today St. Matthews is a premier area of Louisville that includes The Mall of St. Matthews and The Oxmoor Mall.  It is known as Louisville's largest shopping district.  Not only do you find desirable well known retail shopping here, you also have great local boutiques and restaurants.

The area is extremely popular when it comes to housing.  It is known for strong resale and historic charm.  It has one of Louisville's highest appreciation.  Some of the main thoroughfares are Lexington Road, Shelbyville Road, Cannons Lane, and Breckenridge Lane.  Interstate 64 runs through the heart of the area and Interstate 264 provides quick access to the shopping district. 

Trinity High School is a private Catholic school that resides in St. Matthews and is known for its excellence in academics and athletics.
